Noise Today, Damage Tomorrow
We don’t think twice about protecting our skin from the sun or our minds from stress—but what about our ears?Hearing loss isn’t just something that happens with age. Loud music, constant earbuds, and noisy environments are damaging hearing in young people every day. The worst part? You won’t notice until it’s too late.
The Sound of Self-Care is here to help you listen smarter, protect your vibe, and keep your ears sharp for life. Whether you’re at the gym, gaming, or vibing out to your favorite playlist, this is your guide to hearing health that actually fits your lifestyle.
🎧 Confession: I Love My Music Loud
…but so did my ears—until they didn’t.
If you’re anything like me, you’ve always got something playing. Lo-fi beats, thunderstorm loops, 528 Hz healing tones, or straight-up crank-it-up bangers that shake your soul—music is my mood manager. It’s how I move through the world. Silence? AWKWARD
But here’s the thing…I’ve got ringing in my ears. Not once in a while—all the time. And vertigo! Lately, I’ve been saying “HUH?” more than I’d like to admit. My vertigo interfered with my ability to drive! At first, I laughed it off. Blamed my trifocals. Blamed background noise. Blamed my old age. But deep down, I knew… my ears have taken a hit.
🎵 Music Heals… But It Can Also Hurt
We don’t talk about this enough: You can love music and still protect your hearing. Listening to loud sounds over time (even the healing kind) can wear down the delicate hair cells in your inner ear. And when they’re damaged? They don’t grow back. That ringing? That “HUH?” moment? It’s your body waving a red flag.
🧠 Did You Know?
Over 85 decibels (like a hairdryer or busy street) is where damage starts
100 decibels (a concert or maxed-out headphones) can cause permanent hearing loss in 15 minutes
Tinnitus, sound sensitivity, and trouble understanding speech are all signs of noise damage
💜 So What Do You Do When You Love the Noise?
You don’t have to stop the music. Just change how you vibe with it:
Lower the volume. Even a few clicks down makes a difference.
Use noise-canceling headphones so you’re not cranking it to fight outside sounds
Let your ears rest. After a concert, a party, or even a long day with earbuds in—give your hearing a break.
Try mixing in healing frequencies at safe levels (seriously, check your volume before bed)
🎶 Final Thought:
I’m not giving up my music—and I’m not asking you to either. But I am learning to love my hearing like I love my playlist. Because I want to hear every beat, every lyric, every moment for the rest of my life.
That’s the sound of self-care. 💜And I’m finally listening. #dontstop
